BMW’s service is a bit different than Zipcar’s one-way program, given that you can park the BMW rental vehicles in any legal city parking spot - hence the “free floating” description. The one-way airport drop-off and pick-up lot idea is something BMW plans to launch soon with its new “free-floating” car-sharing service, ReachNow. The airport lot opened three weeks ago Zipcar has similar lots at 60 other airports worldwide. That means you can rent a vehicle in Seattle and drop it off at the airport, or vice versa. Zipcar will also let customers drop off and pick up the Honda vehicles at new parking spots at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. We’ve followed up with Zipcar to get a coverage map. The 100 new vehicles - Zipcar has a total of 500 vehicles in Seattle - can be found in neighborhoods like Capitol Hill, Southeast Seattle, Downtown, Belltown, South Lake Union, U-District, West Seattle, and more. More vehicles will be added over time, Zipcar said. At launch, there will be 100 Honda vehicles, including the Honda Fit and Honda Civic, designated for one-way trips. We support mobility options such as car sharing so that people don’t need to rely on personal vehicle ownership to get around the city! We’re starting to install dedicated car-share spaces in places that help people access transit and business districts.
#ZIPCAR SEATTLE FOR FREE#
Seattle has both free-floating car-sharing, allowing drivers to park for free in most any legal parking space in the city (look for free-floating car share permit sticker in the windshield currently, car2go and ReachNow), and some dedicated car share spaces, permitted for a specific operator (currently, Zipcar, car2go, and ReachNow). We don’t anticipate any traffic impacts with this change on Montlake but if this is a location where you park a personal car, you’ll no longer be able to do that. The Montlake location also features a 3-minute passenger load zone for easy drop-off and pick-up whether you’re in a private vehicle or a Lyft or Uber. Once you park, you can walk across the bridge for quick access to the UW Light Rail Station, the IMA, or Husky Stadium, and the UW campus is to the west! In Seattle, so far, that’s vehicles through ReachNow, car2go, or Zipcar (Note that if you’re using Zipcar you can’t end your rental at these spaces). Spaces marked with the car share sign are available to car share vehicles only, on a first-come-first-served basis.
